Concrete MIX Design Excel sheet

Concrete mix design has to be performed to find out mix ratio of concrete element to acquire target strength for a specified job e.g. structure. For different structure different strength of concrete are used. As example, strength of concrete for high rise building or important class building and low rise or relatively less important buildings are not same. That's why mix design of concrete need to be done to get the desired strength of concrete.

We know the fundamental elements of concrete are water, cement, fine aggregate ( mainly sand), and coarse aggregate ( brick or stone chips). So by the consequences of the mix design, ratio of these things are obtain to get expected concrete strength. And then present those amount as a ratio. May be the ratio looks like this:

Water : cement : sand : brick/stone

Or just like this

Cement : sand : brick/stone

There are many programs & and spreadsheet are available over Internet to calculate mix design. Those are varies according to design code such as ACI, IS, BS standard etc. And also differs in unit system like as English or Metric. Today I am going to share a spreadsheet to calculate mix design. This sheet is according to ACI Code. The good thing is that, this sheet is available with both unit system. This sheet is made to calculate the Mix Design Ratio and Further calculation of Quantity of materials.

Unit: English & SI

This sheet is able to calculate MIX ratio for air and non-air en-trained concrete under freezing & thawing and salt water condition. Thin Structure consideration also added.

This is a macro enabled Excel file. You need to Enable excel macro to use this sheet.

This is first version of this sheet. It may have some bug. I’ll keeping it update regularly.

CSI SAFE v12 Download

We are in the era of advance structured buildings. Nowadays engineers are developing such unique & dynamic building that beyond of usual ideas. And for that they need to design these building are extremely different. Some of the significant element of a building is Foundation, Slab etc.

“Foundation is the lower portion of a building that carrying loads from supports like column or wall and transmit it to the ground”

“Slab is the flat and lower surface in particular floor on which we staying and resting our goods”

So Foundation is the base of a Building. If somehow it undergoes down, the whole structure will be fail. And which could be reason of heavy loss. On other hand , if a slab got fail, it could be caused to loss life and capital of that particular floor or more. So these two has highly importance on designing. In some cases that design need to be performed by  method. This process is laborious & time consuming. But nowadays engineers design with softwares in computer. And by different opinion “SAFE” became the best analyzer for design Foundation and slab.

 SAFE is the Structural analysis tool by CSI [Computers and Structure Inc.]. SAFE is highly recommendable for designing Slab and Foundation. This application provides precise results from the operation. SAFE has the easiest drawing tool to make a model. Besides ETABS or CAD models could be imported. Even using data from Spreadsheet, Database program a model could be generated. This is really a useful feature.

Slab or Foundation can be of any shape. Slab could have any framing system such as One way, Two way, Flat plate,  Flat, Waffle, Ribbed beam etc with Columns, Brace, Walls or stair jointed upper or lower portion of that floor. Or a foundation can have any type like Mat, Combined etc.

 So SAFE is the really reliable tool for modeling, Analyzing, Reinforce detailing could be performed on this software.

Design of Concrete Structures 13th ed by Nilson.

The World became a jungle of concrete. Concrete structures are everywhere around us. There are lots of instance of Concrete Structures, like Buildings, Bridges, Dams, Retaining Walls etc. And most of them are Reinforced Concrete Structures. So learning Concrete is crucial for Engineers.

Designing Concrete Structures means to finding out the Size, Reinforcement of a structures. OCR elaborately Optical Character Recognition is the one of Excellency of Technology. Basically it is The Electronic conversion of images containing  printed Texts. World using this technology  in gigantic fields. Such as at Reading Printed Documents, Bank statements, Passports, Invoices , Different receipts and cards and many more…..

OCR is the technology to scan images,  recognize characters and convert them to Text. Usual OCR application can detect characters of single font at a time in a image. Nowadays developers making it more powerful &  accurate which are capable to recognize many languages even Handwriting . Technology, which capable to convert Handwriting are named ICR [ Intelligent Character Recognition].

Anyway, in this tutorial I used GT-TEXT to Copy text from images. It is Simple , easier and pretty powerful. It also has multi language detect feature.
